It could be said that one of the best triple jumpers in the World at the time Aston Moore competed was
Keith
Connor. Connor who also represented GB.
He obtained an Olympic bronze medal in 1984 and also was a European and Commonwealth Champion
but, another man,
with excellent credentials for life, over many years, was and is,
Aston Moore (Born 8/2/56). A long list of 18
athletes he coached in 2016. One of them is a top UK decathlete
Ashley Bryant of Windsor Slough & Eton.
How about Aston Moore’s thoughts about one of his athletes he coaches,
Sineade Gutzmore, his triple jumper
from Birchfield.
“I have been working with her for two seasons. The thing we need to develop is her running then, the further she will go. She
has the qualities you would expect triple jumpers to have. To hit the runway and bounce off it. She has good rebound qualities
so, to turn that strength into power that is basically what I am trying to do.’
Aston Moore best marks were 7.76 for the long jump and for the triple 17.02 with wind and 16.68 at Zagreb on 16/8/81.
He was European junior triple jump Champion with 16.16, at Athens in August 1975. In 1976 he represented GB in the Olympics at
Montreal but did not qualify for the final. Something worth having for him was bronze medals, which he obtained in
two
Commonwealth Games triple jump Finals. 1978 at Edmonton with 16.69 and 1982 at Brisbane with 16.76. ‘The last time I competed
was at Edinburgh in the Commonwealth Games of 1986’
(5th with 16.06).
Immediately after that I took up coaching.”
