ALASDAIR ROSS in March 2015 at Torun, Poland won three M60 gold medals in the European Masters Indoors over 200/400 &
the sprint relay.
But on Monday 4th of July 2016 he sadly died of pancreatic cancer
(Born 17/3/52).
The charming and impressive looking Scotsman, originally from Edinburgh, was self coached and ran for Windsor Slough &
Eton and Veterans AC. He was 2nd in the M60, 400 Final of the World Masters outdoors last year.
He first came into veteran/Masters athletics at 40, coming 2nd in the World Masters 200m in 22.87 and was a medallist every
year in major international Masters Championships till this year.
As a younger man he competed at National level.
Alasdair Ross comes in here “My best event was the 400m. I used to run the Southern Counties because I
was living in the South of England. I got selected for Scotland a couple of times, for small international meets. I ran the
400 against Dave Jenkins and the 200 against Allan Wells in Edinburgh but, needless to say, they won. My best times were
10.66/21.4/46.88 for the 100/200/400.’
‘I got married when I was 24 and stopped when I was 26 then, picked it up again just before coming a veteran Master at 40,
then did relatively better because I was able to train and, managed to win a few World and European Masters Championships so,
comparatively I got better when I got older.”
