Dear All -How to go about getting a CRB-
Inline with UKA policy Highgate Harriers require Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) checks for Athletics Coaches/Parents/Volunteers working with children.
The requirement has been in place with the UKA for about a year.
Please Note that UKA state that you need to get a CRB check for athletics even if you already have had a CRB check elsewhere. For example to help at your childs school or for giving lifts in your car to your childs team mates for the swimming club etc)
UKA state that "everyone in athletics who has significant contact with children to have an Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure". Please follow these Instructions asap:
1. Contact the CRB on telephone. Their official number is 0870 9090844. However, if you don't want to pay for phoning an 0870 number (it's national rate and non-geographical), there are two alternative numbers which may work - 0151 6761683 or 01254 894992 according to the website www.saynoto0870.com. They will ask you some personal details, which are then pre-printed on the application form, which is sent out to you. It is sometimes best to spell out your details and get them to repeat them back.
- Ask for an ENHANCED level of disclosure.
- State that the Registered Body number is 22525500000.
- When asked about payment, state that you are a volunteer as the disclosures are free to volunteers. Otherwise, the fee for an enhanced disclosure is £34
2. You will be sent a form, which they will have partially completed using the information you provided in (1).
- Do not complete sections X-Z
3. When you have completed the form, Please contact and bring it to Nick Stockman the club secretary. He will be back at the track regularly, starting Thursday 12th October.
- I need to complete section X in person, so bring the form, along with as many of the forms of ID they ask for in section X as possible.
- I will send the form off myself to UKA.

Horsenden Hill, Perivale.
Directions
Perivale is near Horsenden Hill. The changing rooms etc are at the community centre, The actual race is just to the north - walk up North Horsenden Lane then turn left into the fields.
see here:
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=516250&y=183750&z=0&sv=516250,183750&st=4&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf
More detailed Instructions
For the start and finish walk uphill from the Community Centre. The road is narrow and you should walk on the right hand pavement. After crossing the Canal Bridge don't walk on the road but go into the 'park' on your left and continue on the path for about 100m where there is a gap in the hedge on your left for you to cross the road here. Take care in crossing the road as this can be a blind spot for cars. Once across keep right then left and follow the trees for 100m to the start.
Perivale tube station (Central Line) is very near the Community Centre. Turn right out of the station and walk about 300m along Horsenden Lane. The Centre is the last building on the left hand side before the road narrows and starts to rise uphill.
By car : Use the A40 (Western Avenue) from London and continue straight on through the underpass at Hanger Lane. Take the slip road on your left after about 1 mile from Hanger Lane. Carry on to the traffic lights and turn right (bridge above the A40). Turn right again (traffic lights) after crossing the bridge so that you are now facing back towards London. Turn left at next traffic lights into Horsenden Lane. 300m is Perivale Station on your right. Try and find a parking spot just after the station then continue towards the Community Centre which is on your left.

Two 13 year old pupils from Parliament Hill School Eucalypta Bradley and Charlotte Reed FitzGerald who train with Highgate Harriers were thrilled to participate in a special athletics session with top British coach Fuzz Ahmed and his brilliant athlete Julie Crane.
Julie who is a high jump specialist had just returned from The Commonwealth Games in Melbourne where she won the silver medal for Wales in HighJump.
Those who watched her on TV may remember that she was involved in a controversial decision by the judges. She told us that she is upholding an appeal.
Athletics Coaches from Highgate Harriers, London Heathside and Hackney enjoyed an inspiring session from Fuzz who first made himself known to Highgate last summer after commandeering a Highjump session!
He also works with athletes such as Kelly Southerton and Steve Bageley.
During the session He informed us that he used to train 250 rugby players for 2 hours and eight of them played for Scotland. His message became clear its now time to put Athletics back into Sport and for children to get physically active and strong again.
